Painting 56

This is my cousin's little girl Claire. I painted this from a photo I took during a family reunion trip to the coast. My second portrait that I have attempted and I am pleased with the results. After a long string of so so paintings, it's nice to step back and appreciate one every once in awhile. There wouldn't be the motivation to paint if I didn't find the good and be able to celebrate the successes of what I do as a hobby. So in that spirit, I applaud my effort and refrain from saying anything negative about this portrait. Claire is in possession of her painting and I hope she enjoys it as much as I enjoyed painting her.

Grant, this painting is one of my favorites. You were able to achieve the softness of a child's skin so well. No wonder your cousin asked you to paint her. Your shadows are amazing and the detail in the bodice of her dress is lovely. You should do more portraits.

This is truly beautiful! You got the soft, lovely skin tones that would be on a girl of this age. Very nicely done (and of course I like her name :) !

Grant, I am very lazy about commenting on blogs. That said, I totally enjoy watching your journey to 100...seems like you are getting closer, yes? This portrait of Claire is, and always will be, a great treasure. You captured her tentative expression and beautiful baby girl complexion...excellent work.

I have been waiting for painting 57. I know you have cranked out some fabulous art since this sweet little girl. Like a few portraits, a bike, cups of coffee....come on Grant, you need to play "catch-up" here. I'll be checking on your posts......
